Kapu is inspired by kikapu, the Swahili word for a woven basket traditionally carried by Kenyan women in their daily lives.

At Kapu Moda, we celebrate the journey from the hands that weave to the hands that carry with purpose. Each piece is a bridge between Kenyan craftsmanship and modern living, connecting heritage, artistry, and the women who bring these stories to life.

Handcrafted slowly.

At Kapu, a handbag is more than an accessory. It is a statement, a companion, and a piece of empowerment carried with you every day. Every Kapu bag begins with natural sisal and the knowledge of skilled hands. Woven slowly, each piece carries subtle variations that reveal how it was made.

Why we exist

Kapu brings Kenyan weaving traditions into contemporary life, with the belief that cultural integrity and economic opportunity can grow together.

We value craftsmanship for the knowledge, time and human contribution it carries. By presenting Kenyan artistry with care and context, Kapu creates space for this work to be recognised on its own terms. Our pieces are made to be desirable, useful and beautifully resolved while remaining honest about their origin and the hands behind them.

MATERIALS & CRAFTMANSHIP

We use natural sisal ( agave) grown locally and 100% genuine leather sourced locally. Each material is carefully chosen for its quality, character and connection to place. Every piece is handcrafted with patience and care and each bag carries the soul of the maker, a tribute to time, craftsmanship, and conscious creation.
Our collection is carried out in small intentional batches, allowing us to maintain quality, craftsmanship, and purpose.
